SALARY: Salary high 30's to low 40's DOE/DOQ. This is a ten-month/year, full-time position (.84 FTE). Excellent benefits package.
The Licensed Student Counselor provides short-term individual counseling and coordinates retention programming to foster the academic persistence and success of Peru State College students. This position is responsible for providing academic advisement/counseling to probationary and at-risk students. The Licensed Student Counselor will also coordinate an early alert system to alert students at risk of failing courses and provide individualized intervention to address barriers to success. In addition, this individual will lead efforts to promote awareness and prevention of drug and alcohol use across campus. This position will also help students apply information obtained through career assessment and career exploration services to develop and pursue career and lifestyle goals.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree required. Eligibility for Nebraska mental health practice license required. The Licensed Student Counselor must have the knowledge, abilities, and skills associated with master’s level training in counseling or a closely related field, commensurate with Nebraska standards for a mental health practice license. Experience working in an educational setting and/or with young adults is strongly preferred. Experience with academic advising, career guidance, life-coaching and/or drug and alcohol awareness education is desirable.
Successful candidates should demonstrate: 1) excellent interpersonal skills and judgment, 2) proficiency in developmental theory and its application to the college experience, 3) ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, 4) ability to coordinate services with other campus constituencies, and 5) ability to work as a part of a team. Experience involving academic advising is desirable.
