Job Description

Statement of the Job:

The Executive Director of The Nebraska Association of Behavioral Health Organizations (NABHO) is responsible for NABHO’s overall organizational success by providing strategic, operational, ethical and inspirational leadership consistent with the mission, values, policies, applicable laws and regulations and contractual obligations of NABHO. The Executive Director is the primary contact for anything related to the Association’s business.

Essential Functions:

Leadership:

The Executive Director is an executive leader who assesses and responds to the needs of members, staff, and the board; keeps a focus on the long-term objectives of the organization; balances strategic and tactical responsibilities; and represents NABHO with multiple constituencies.  The Executive Director ensures organizational excellence through assessment, transparency, collaboration, learning, creativity, communication, accountability and exceptional member service.   

·         Leads the development, implementation, and assessment of Association goals and plans and strategies in partnership with the Executive Committee, staff, members, and stakeholders.

·         Identifies and monitors trends and emerging issues, assesses this information based on mission, strategic and annual plans, and brings stakeholders together to address them.

·         Serves as NABHO’s chief ambassador representing the interests of the Association within key local, state, regional and national stakeholders.

Resource Development and Financial Management:

The Executive Director values strong internal operations, fiscal responsibility, accountability and transparency, and ensures efficient, accurate, and consistent financial operations and practices. Additionally, the Executive Director will assure that varied strategies for cultivation of financial support is ongoing.

·         Develops and supervises the management of the annual budget.

·         Oversees the financial systems and processes and periodically reports on the fiscal health of the organization.

·         Reviews and approves all financial reports

·         Approves all program expenditures

·         Reviews and signs all issued checks and/or approves check signing procedures

·         Reviews and approves all contracts under $25,000

·         Reviews and approves all grant submissions

·         Approves inter-account bank transfers

·         Is on-site signatory for all bank accounts

·         Reviews all online bank statements for any irregularities

·         Makes access to all online financial information available to the Treasurer

·         Reviews completed monthly bank reconciliations

·         Oversees the adherence to all internal controls

·         Authorizes travel stipends for staff

·         Reviews and approves all reimbursements and fund requests

·         Makes bank deposits

·         Initiates processing of payroll

·         Maintains general ledger

·         Prepares monthly and year-end financial reports

·         Reconciles all bank accounts

·         Mails vendor checks

·         Manages accounts receivable

·         Coordinates annual audit including single audit reporting requirements as necessary

·         Coordinates finance meetings

 

Advocacy

The Executive Director works actively with policymakers, philanthropy, government, business, media, and the public at large to advance public awareness and understanding of and support for the mission of NABHO The Executive Director builds coalitions, identifies alternatives, gathers input, testifies before legislative committees, and strengthens legislative options to support the mission and priorities of the Association.

·         Fosters working relations among members of the staff, Executive Committee and colleagues of partner organizations.

·         Advocates for the mission of the NABHO locally, statewide, regionally, and nationally.

Strategic Planning, Marketing Relations, Communications:

The Executive Director works collaboratively with the Executive Committee, Association membership, Association special committees, Staff and key sector stakeholders to create, implement, assess and reassess NABHO’s goals and priorities.  Additionally, he/she will oversee and direct media relations, external communications, public relations and marketing as it relates to the mission of the organization and its strategic plan.                     

·         Oversees development and implementation of communications strategies and plans.

·         Participates in the preparation and execution of communications, as appropriate.

Overseeing Staff and General Management:

The Executive Director has overall responsibility for building and leading a dynamic and cohesive team and developing staff members to their highest potential.

·         Monitors workplace ethos (the distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution).

·         Nurtures a culture of collaboration and innovation.

·         Oversees staff review and personnel responsibilities.

Executive Committee Relations:

The Executive Director works closely with the committee to help fulfill its governance responsibilities.  The Executive Director advises and educates committee members, identifies new committee members, communicates clearly and regularly with committee members, and develops a close partnering relationship with committee members.

Plans and prepares for Executive Committee, and Membership Meetings.

·         Keeps the committee informed of the status, problems of, and opportunities for, the organization.

·         Recommends and implements policies of the Association.

·         Works in partnership with the committee and full membership to further the organization’s interests.

Job Requirements

Required:

·         Travel is required for local, regional and national meetings.

·         Position headquarters located in Lincoln, travel for meetings and during legislative session.

·         Local, regional or statewide advocacy and/or public policy experience

·         Demonstrated ability in fund development, marketing and communications

·         Successful experience working with an Executive Committee

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills

·         Experience establishing strong community relations

·         Supervisory experience

·         Financial management experience

·         High degree of integrity, creativity and transparency
