Strong clinical and crisis management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience in an area of mental health pertinent to adult students (e.g. trauma, grief, sexual orientation/identity, stress/anxiety, relationships, dimensions of wellness, life transitions, etc.). Ability to effectively counsel students and consult with faculty and staff on a wide range of issues. Ability to recognize those individuals whose therapeutic issues/needs are beyond the scope of solution-focused counseling and ability to provide appropriate and timely referrals.

Responsibility Statement: Clinical Counseling – Students
Duties:
Provides goal-oriented, therapeutic counseling and walk-in crisis intervention to UNMC students. This includes assessing biopsychosocial status and needs of individuals using information from intake assessments, individual history, and direct clinical observations to recommend treatment options.. (E)

Provides couples counseling to UNMC students and their spouses/partners. (E)

Facilitate personal growth, psycho-educational, and therapeutic groups.
Consults with UNMC faculty and academic administrators regarding student behavioral problems and professionalism issues upon request. (E)

Develops and facilitates group presentations on topics related to academic performance, stress management, and psychological wellness. Develops and maintains supplemental print and web-based materials. (E)

May provide supervision/training of Master’s-level graduate students. 

Participates in professional associations and continuing education necessary to maintain licensure. 

Keep appropriate case records. (E)

Provides back up for the Associate Director, or designee, as needed. (E) 

May maintain and update a psychological wellness lab and resource library located in Counseling and Psychological Services, including techniques such as meditation, relaxation training, and biofeedback. (E)
