The Peer Support Specialist is an active member of the Antelope Valley Community Support Team and provides peer support services to clients with serious mental health challenges in the community. Under supervision of the Director of Peer Support the Peer Support Specialist will function as a role model to peers, providing consumer information and peer support for clients in outpatient settings. The Peer Support performs a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages in regaining independence within the community & mastery over their own recovery process.
-Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid Nebraska driver’s license with a clean driving record.
-Certification in Nebraska Peer Support preferred but will provide training to the right candidate if necessary.
-Must have own transportation and use personal vehicle to transport clients.
-Willingness to work a flexible schedule which includes facilitating both individual & group sessions.
-Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery through the use of one-on-one & group sessions. During these sessions the Peer Support will support clients in identifying & creating goals & developing recovery pans with the skills, strengths, supports and resources to aide them in achieving their goals.
- Assist Clients in working with their case manager or treatment team in determining the steps he/she need to take to achieve these goals and self-directed recovery.
-As one who has availed themselves to mental health services, the peer support will share their own experiences and what skills, strengths, supports and resources they use & will demonstrate how they have directed their own recovery.
-Assist clients in building social skills in community settings.
-teach & role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience as well as effective coping techniques & self-help strategies.
-serve as a recovery agent by providing and advocation for any effective recovery-based services that will aid the client in daily living.
-other duties as assigned.
