DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Gathering patient demographic and personal information. • Issuing medical files to persons and agencies according to laws and regulations. • Helping with departmental audits and investigations. • Distributing medical charts to the appropriate persons of the agency. • Maintaining quality and accurate records by following agency procedures. • Ensuring patient charts, paperwork, and reports are completed in an accurate and timely manner. • Ensuring that all medical records are protected and kept confidential. • Filing all patients’ medical records and information. • Supplying persons of the agency with the appropriate documents and forms. • Completing clerical duties, including answering phones, responding to emails, and processing patient admission and discharge records.Required Skills/Abilities: • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, processes, and administrative duties. • Demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with strong attention to detail. • Proficient in information management programs and MS office. • Ability to interpret medical records department policies and procedures and to apply them in specific situations. • Thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations, laws, and utilization review committee planning, organization, and management. • Knowledge of medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations, and the state peer review statute. Education and Experience: 1. High school graduate or equivalent and an ART (accredited records technician) or RRA (registered records administrator) designation required. 2. A minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role. 3. Must meet required continuing education hours of the AMRA and maintain accreditation status (ART or RRA).The position is full-time working at Heartland's South Sioux City office.
