Psychiatrist

Gering, NE USA

Salary Range: $180,000 to $250,000

Signing Bonus: $25,000

Moving Expense: Up to $10,000

Area of Responsibility Practice sound principles of Medical Psychiatric and/or Mental Health as provider at public health level for Community Health Center (CHC) clients; participate in client service and outreach activities; participate in the decision-making process concerning the delivery of Mental Health services; and practice bicultural awareness to meet the needs of our uninsured clients.  

Major Duties:

  1. Treats patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress toward goals with patients; providing instructions; monitoring effect of medications; and supervising staff provision of services.
  2. Evaluates patients by interviewing patient, family, and other persons; conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors; reviewing medical history and related documents; selecting, administering, and interpreting psychological tests; and ordering laboratory tests and evaluating results.
  3. Develops treatment plans by determining patient’s needs and nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders and establishing treatment goals and methodologies.
  4. Implements treatment plans, including prescription of psychotropic medications.
  5. Monitors and evaluates treatment results, determining efficacy and potential side effects of medications and adjusting treatment as needed.
  6. Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, and consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, case managers and other health care providers.
  7. Follow-up with clients with suspected abnormal conditions.
  8. Provide crisis intention when needed.
  9. Refer clients to other sources of health care or community resources as indicated.
  10. Assures quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, and legal regulations; participating in utilization reviews; and remaining available for emergency consultations.
  11. Participate in the quality assurance component of the CHC clinic.
  12. Participate in supervision as required for APRN and Psychiatric Services staff for complex or other cases. 
  13. Improves staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues.
  14. Maintains accurate historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events and writing summaries in a timely manner.
  15. Updates job knowledge by participating in continuing medical educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  16. Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. 
  17. Maintain confidentiality of client records as set by CAPWN privacy policy and HIPAA law.
  18. Working Conditions:            

  • Office 70%, 30% training, meetings, and community interaction. 
  • Work requires ability to meet tight timelines.
  • Work with many interruptions and interactions.
  • Some evening and week-end hours.
  • May require out of town travel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to bend, stoop, swat, crouch, push and pull file drawers.
  • Fine manipulation of hands for repetitive action.
  • Operate office machines.
  • Must regularly talk, hear and have close vision ability.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must be Board certified or Board eligible (general psychiatry and/or child/adolescent psychiatry.)
  1. Medical degree from an accredited medical school and completion of an approved psychiatric residency.
  2. Licensed to practice medicine in Nebraska with ability to pursue Wyoming medical licensure.
  3. Current DEA registration
  4. Excellent knowledge and familiarity with current DSM criteria.
  5. Familiar with crisis assessment tools and techniques.
  6. Strong working knowledge of general psychiatric principles and practices.
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  8. Must have good beginning knowledge of the principals and practice of Mental Health.  Must adhere to Medical and Mental Health Providers Code of Ethics.
  9. Ability to work with an interpreter if the need arises.
  10. Valid driver’s license and good driving record and insured vehicle.
