Job Description

The Mental Health Consultant (MHC) will work with the agency providing support while focusing on knowledge and practices that improve early childhood interventions to enhance positive mental, behavioral, communications, social-emotional and interpersonal development of infants, toddler and preschoolers.

Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • MHC will work with the staff to support social-emotional development

  • Review annual Developmental Screening (ASQ:S/E) results to make necessary internal and external special education and mental health referrals as necessary

  • Conduct classroom observations and document case notes

  • Meet with management, staff and caregivers, as needed

  • Assist classroom staff and families in completing a Behavior Support Plan (PTRYC), as needed

  • Participate in Multidisciplinary Team Meetings

  • Provide telephone/email mental health support for classroom staff and members of the Early Childhood program leadership staff

  • Attend weekly team meetings with classroom staff at individual locations (via Zoom or in person) to provide insight and recommendations on identified children and support staff upon request

  • Attend monthly Leadership meetings, as needed, at a designated time (typically - held the 3rd Friday of the month) to provide insight and support to NENCAP staff in person or via Zoom

  • Provide parent workshops, as requested by the program, in-person or virtual

  • Provide professional development and/or training on evidence-based practices and current mental health topics

  • Participate on the Health Services Advisory Committee which meets twice a year (typically in October and May) via Zoom video conferencing or in-person

  • Provide appropriate mental health topics/resources for families, upon request and attend Family Engagement Activities at designated locations

  • Provide other services as required by the program

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Mental Health Counselor, Psychologist or Licensed Social Worker 

  • Experience in managing care for children/youth

  • Working knowledge of Special Education laws, Civil Rights laws, ADA and HIPAA laws

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written

  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational and follow up skills

  • Overall positive demeanor and warm attitude with ability to effectively engage children

  • Proficient in Google Email, Docs, Calendar; MS Word

  • Experience working with Early Intervention, Early Childhood and knowledge of Federal Head Start and Early Head Start Standards.

Hours/Schedule and Compensation:

  • Must be available to make on-site visits during business hours (9am - 3pm)

Work Location:

  • Travel to multiple locations in Northeast Nebraska is required: Norfolk, Siouxland, South Sioux City, Wayne, Walthill
