Join Boys Town as a Crisis Counselor and provide vital support and crisis counseling in response to various forms of communication. Starting pay is $17 - $18/hr (plus shift differential), and this role is onsite in Omaha, Nebraska.
$1500 hiring bonus for part time and overnight
$3000 hiring bonus for full time
Major Responsibilities & Duties:
- Provide short-term crisis counseling or resource information via telephone, email, chat, text, or other electronic formats.
- Assess immediate and long-term safety of clients and respond appropriately.
- Use basic counseling techniques to assess client needs.
- Stay calm and objective during life-threatening situations, seeking senior staff support when necessary.
- Provide clients with information, including parenting skills and problem-solving advice.
- Utilize an internal database to access local service referrals for clients.
- Follow established procedures and use judgment within each situation.
- Refer clients to appropriate services when needs are beyond the scope of services.
- Document details of each contact and provide necessary reports.
- Respond to Helpline overflow contacts and transfer to appropriate departments as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of regulatory requirements pertaining to youth care.
- Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based communication formats.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships.
- High typing or texting accuracy and speed.
- Ability to assess situations quickly, make decisions in sensitive areas, and adapt responses while maintaining procedural integrity.
- Knowledge of the Boys Town Model.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Social or Behavioral Sciences.
- Previous crisis intervention or hotline experience.
