Crisis Counselor

Join Boys Town as a Crisis Counselor and provide vital support and crisis counseling in response to various forms of communication. Starting pay is $17 - $18/hr (plus shift differential), and this role is onsite in Omaha, Nebraska.

$1500 hiring bonus for part time and overnight

$3000 hiring bonus for full time

Major Responsibilities & Duties:

• Provide short-term crisis counseling or resource information via telephone, email, chat, text, or other electronic formats.
• Assess immediate and long-term safety of clients and respond appropriately.
• Use basic counseling techniques to assess client needs.
• Stay calm and objective during life-threatening situations, seeking senior staff support when necessary.
• Provide clients with information, including parenting skills and problem-solving advice.
• Utilize an internal database to access local service referrals for clients.
• Follow established procedures and use judgment within each situation.
• Refer clients to appropriate services when needs are beyond the scope of services.
• Document details of each contact and provide necessary reports.
• Respond to Helpline overflow contacts and transfer to appropriate departments as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Understanding of regulatory requirements pertaining to youth care.
• Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based communication formats.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
• Ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships.
• High typing or texting accuracy and speed.
• Ability to assess situations quickly, make decisions in sensitive areas, and adapt responses while maintaining procedural integrity.
• Knowledge of the Boys Town Model.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Social or Behavioral Sciences.
• Previous crisis intervention or hotline experience.
