Join Our Team as a Child Care Provider Intern!

Northern Hills Child Care is excited to offer a unique internship opportunity for compassionate and dedicated individuals passionate about supporting the growth and development of children, especially those who have experienced trauma and exhibit challenging behaviors. We are looking for interns who want to make a long-term positive impact on children's lives and gain valuable experience in the field of early childhood education and trauma-informed care.

What You Will Do:

  • Assist in developing and implementing engaging, inclusive lesson plans that accommodate the unique needs of each child, focusing on social-emotional learning and resilience.
  • Help foster a safe, supportive classroom environment for children with diverse backgrounds and needs, including those exhibiting challenging behaviors.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with children and their families, supporting the child’s well-being and development.
  • Learn and employ strategies for managing and de-escalating challenging behaviors in a compassionate and effective manner.
  • Participate in hands-on training, one-on-one mentoring, and ongoing professional development to enhance your skills in supporting children with behavioral challenges.

Who You Are:

  • You are a student or recent graduate in child care, education, or a related field, with a particular interest in or experience with children who exhibit challenging behaviors.
  • You possess a deep understanding of and commitment to inclusion, empathy, and patience in your approach to child care.
  • You are eager to learn and implement strategies that support social-emotional development and address behavioral challenges.
  • You are resilient, able to maintain composure and provide stability in challenging situations.
  • You share our core values of inclusion, hope, and the belief in every child’s potential to grow and succeed.
  • You are passionate about your own professional growth and welcome opportunities for learning.
  • You meet the qualifications for InternNE support, which include being either:
    • Enrolled in a college, a university, a certified training institution, or some other institution of higher education; or
    • Applying for an internship within twelve months following graduation from a public or private high school or a college, a university, a certified training institution, or some other institution of higher education.
