Job Description

Nebraska Hematology and Oncology is located in Lincoln, Nebraska, and is searching for a full-time, highly skilled psychiatrist who is passionate about caring for oncology patients and improving their quality of life. The psychiatrist would lead and direct a behavioral health program and evaluate the psychiatric care of hematology-oncology patients in ambulatory health services through diagnosing acute and chronic mental health illnesses, implementing a plan of care with pharmacological and non-pharmacological agents, and providing psychiatric-specific teaching and supportive counseling to patients, families, and groups.  The Psychiatrist will also collaborate with provider colleagues in the psychiatric care and treatment of hematology-oncology and palliative care patients.  

Job Requirements

·         Full-time position: Monday through Friday. One day administrative.

·         Lead and direct the Behavioral Health Program.

·         Provide psychiatric care in an outpatient hematology-oncology setting.

·         Conducts comprehensive adult psychiatric assessments to diagnose mental health conditions.

·         Performs physical examinations, specifically mental status examinations and others when appropriate.

·         Formulates personalized treatment plans based on assessment findings and clinical judgment and modifies them to meet changing patient needs.

·         Conducts evidence-based therapeutic interventions and regular follow-up appointments to assess patient progress.

·         Prescribes and manages psychotropic medications as appropriate.

·         Monitors medication efficacy and side effects, making adjustments as needed.

·         Provides psychiatric-specific teaching and supportive counseling to patients, families, and groups.

·         Coordinates referrals to other healthcare professionals, support groups, counseling, and community agencies as needed.

·         Evaluates patients for the need for a higher level of care.

·         Accurately documents patient visits in a concise and timely manner.

·         Provide consultation to medical staff about psychiatric diagnosis and treatment and/or the need for psychiatric medication.

·         Collaborate with therapists and psychologists.

·         Collaborate care with the patient’s hematology-oncology, radiation, and/or palliative care teams and other health professionals to ensure that comprehensive care is offered.

·         Stays current with developments in the field of psychiatry.

·         Serves as a member of committees.
